We rely on the local community to provide the majority
of the funds that keep the rescue centre going. Fund raising events are
organised right across the region.
Some communities raise enough money (£1000)
to sponsor a kennel of their own. So far the communities of Dalbeattie,
Galloway, Moffat, Stewartry, Kirkpatrick Fleming and Kirkcudbright have sponsored
kennels.

D&G Canine Rescue Centre Stand

Whatever your talents, we can use your help! We rely
on a wonderful band of volunteers that raise the funds to keep the rescue
centre going and help care for the dogs in the kennels while they are
waiting for new homes.
We need helpers for events, our shops in Annan, Dalbeattie and
Dumfries and at the kennels near Glencaple.
We also need foster carers for dogs that do not settle
well in the kennels.
Help at the kennels includes reception work, administration,
gardening and DIY as well as dog-related activities. To find out more
contact the centre.

Christine Knott
(Chairman)

Christine is originally from Yorkshire and, after a lot of travelling, has now settled with her family in delightful Dumfries and Galloway.
She is Head of Education, responsible for two young person's units in and around Dumfries.
Her specialist subject is Home Economics which she still enjoys teaching.
Christine is studying for an MSc in Advanced Residential Childcare through
Strathclyde University. She specialises in effective interventions with young people which enables and develops positive self esteem.
Christine joined the board first as minute-taker, followed by a stint as Newsletter Editor, and took the Chair after the 2007 AGM. She says her work with the Charity provides her with "an outlet for thinking about something else"! She brings both her effective communication and sound management skills gained both in her present field and past experience of running her own business. The Knott family have three dogs, the latest acquisition being Becks one of the Lurcher cross pups from the kennels.
Paul Robinson
(Secretary)

After serving 27 years in the Parachute Regiment Paul was asked to review and make recommendations on a company which was struggling to survive. His knowledge, management, communication skills and planning abilities that he had used throughout his military career proved themselves and within 4 years the company had been turned into one of the most successful in the Lancashire area. Paul’s total love and commitment to dogs is demonstrated by his passion to do everything and anything he can for our charity.
Pam Masic
(Treasurer)

Pam has been involved with the kennels for approximately 2 years. Prior to moving to Scotland, Pam was a helper at her local dog obedience club. Since last year she has been on the charity's fund raising committee, and is also responsible for the new corporate clothing. She lives with her husband Mil (also an active volunteer) and 4 rescue dogs just outside Castle Douglas. Two of their dogs, Dram and Minnie, were recent additions to the Masic household from the kennels.
Moira Crombie
(Events co-ordinator/Fundraiser)

Moira is a retired Civil Servant. Since 2004 she has worked as a volunteer 3 days a week at the kennels. Moira has proved to be a huge asset in assisting with the paperwork, dealing with phone calls and members of the public who visit our centre. During the last year Moira took on an additional role as head of the events sub committee, her ability to obtain both prizes and sponsorship money from local and national organisations has been paramount in the success of our fundraising effort. Moira is a great dog lover and has 2 Rescue dogs, Moxy and Tasha.
Lady Mary Mumford

Lady Mary, our Patron and generous owner of the Dovecotewells site, was instrumental in setting up the original rescue at Glencaple in 1978 when she made the property available to the then NCDL.
Lady Mary is a great dog-lover and has had a number of rescued dogs, the current one being Cluny, a Lab X Basset of great character!
Lady Mary has always been keen to see the facility for the rescue of Dumfries and Galloway Dogs continue, and has generously supported us from the start. She gracefully agreed to be co-opted onto our board of directors this year, so that she can become even more involved in ensuring we achieve our charitable aim, and was duly elected at our AGM.
Alan S Marshall (MRCVS)

Alan qualified from Glasgow University Veterinary School in 1981 and has worked in Dumfries since 1982. As the practice Alan was working for has undertaken the veterinary work for NCDL, Alan became the main contact for the charity – so involved was he that his work included an annual meeting in London to discuss the veterinary policy.
For Alan, becoming a member of D&GCR was a natural progression and the charity is able to benefit from his wealth of background knowledge and experience. Alan is also a dog lover and he has never been without a dog since qualifying. Currently he has three working dogs – a Cocker Spaniel, a rescue Border Terrier and a retired Flat Coated Retriever.
Linden Kerr BSc (Hons)
(Newsletter editor/Information Officer)

Linden has been involved with the charity since 2003, where she worked as a full-time volunteer for 12 months as part of her Professional Training placement at university. Since graduating she has worked for Battersea Dogs and Cats home as a rehomer and was Deputy Manager at DGCRC for 18 months. Now Manager of South of Scotland Wildlife Hospital and part–time instructor in animal care at Barony College, Linden is still very keen to support and be involved with the charity as much as possible.
