2013! The dawn of another year but for us, this is a very special year as we will be ten years old on 1 March. Reflecting on the day we opened our doors for the first time, it all seems a long time ago but really the years have flown by. What initially seemed an impossible dream has developed over that time into a well respected and successful charity serving a huge geographic area but, at all times, providing a safe haven for stray, abandoned, unwanted and ill-treated dogs. So many dogs have passed through Dovecotewells, that it is no surprise that we shall soon rehome dog number 3000 – what a milestone that will be!
However, enough of looking back now is the time of year when we look forward and plan the fundraising events for the year. Our underlying theme this year is to encourage participation and sharing. We want as many dogs and owners to be part of our plans as possible and we want to encourage everyone to share in our success because without the wonderful support we have received, we would never have succeeded.
We will, of course, be carrying out all the traditional can shakes across the region and hope to, maybe, break the records we achieved during 2012. Our eagerly awaited coffee mornings will be held at Annan and Dalbeattie as usual and attendance at local shows and events will also continue. For all these activities, we will again be relying on the magnificent efforts of our volunteers. However, we are also staging special birthday activities, the details of which also appear on this website, ranging from Doggie Parties to the Dogolympics and from Fashion Shows to the return of the Fabulous Elvis. Throughout the year, there will be opportunities for all our canine friends to take part in a range of outdoor events such as Sponsored Walks, Beach Jamborees, Agility Challenges and Fun Dog Shows. At the end of the year, your dog will again have the opportunity to repay you by taking you along to meet Santa Paws in December.
We know this is a Special Year but with everyone’s continued support, we can make it Extra Special!
