The Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue centre was set up by a group of local people in August 2001.

The purpose of the charity is to rescue, care for, and rehome stray, maltreated, and unwanted dogs.

The charity raises funds through subscriptions, donations, sales from its charity shops in Dumfries, Dalbeattie and Annan, and other fund raising events.

Whatever your talents, we can use your help! We rely on a wonderful band of volunteers that raise the funds to keep the rescue centre going and help care for the dogs in the kennels while they are waiting for new homes.

We need helpers for events, our shops in Annan, Dalbeattie, Newton Stewart and Dumfries and at the kennels near Glencaple.

We also, occasionally, need foster carers for dogs that do not settle well in the kennels.

Help at the kennels includes reception work, administration, gardening and DIY as well as dog-related activities. To find out more contact the centre.

We rely on the local community to provide the majority of the funds that keep the rescue centre going. Fund raising events are organised right across the region.

Some communities raise enough money (£1000) to sponsor a kennel of their own. So far the communities of Dalbeattie, Galloway, Moffat, Stewartry, Kirkpatrick Fleming and Kirkcudbright have sponsored kennels.

All the money raised goes to run the rescue centre in Dumfries and Galloway.

We have no administrative offices and all overheads are kept to the minimum. We welcome donations large and small. Small change collections will be counted and banked. Cash donations can be brought into our shops or the kennels at Dovecotewell, Glencaple.

Donations as cheques should be sent to the Treasurer at the rescue centre or hand delivered to the shops or centre. We do not usually acknowledge donations unless we are especially asked to do so.

We can claim gift aid on your donation if you are a tax payer and provide your name and full address with your donation.

We would appreciate donations of non-perishable goods for tombolas and raffles. There are many of these during the year and it does get quite difficult to find suitable items. If you have any unwanted gifts or can provide a bottle or two this would be a great help. Goods can be taken to either of our shops or to the kennels.
