Walking your dog should be one of the pleasures of dog ownership but too often owners find that it is far from a happy experience as their dog pulls them along.    Actually, dogs like pulling and this is one of the reasons that it is not easy to train a dog to walk alongside you on a slack lead once they have the pulling habit.

At the kennels, we use walking aids with the dogs so that our brilliant dog walking volunteers do not end up with one arm longer than the other!  The most commonly used ones are the stop-pull harness and the full body harness.  If a dog is a really strong puller, we may resort to a head collar.

We have these walking aids on sale at the kennels.  However, we know from talking to many owners that they do not find it easy to select a harness and put it on the dog so we are offering a walking aid service.

We will assess your dog and advise on the most appropriate walking aid, we will find the correct fit and show you how to put it on your dog, we will show you how to use it and the training exercises that you need to stop your dog pulling.  The cost for this service is £30, including purchase of a walking aid.  This service is only available at the Glencaple Centre.  A session will last around 40 minutes and needs to be booked in advance by calling or emailing the centre.
