1st March 2019 to 31th March 2019
How does it work?
The idea is simple (and yes, we admit we kinda pinched it from Macmillan’s Coffee Mornings!).
You invite a few (or as many as you wish!) friends to your house (or a larger venue if necessary) where you provide them with breakfast or brunch for a charge (TIP: simply ask for a donation, which can be more remunerative than asking for a fixed amount). You might choose to do a traditional Scottish breakfast, a continental breakfast, an American breakfast of pancakes or waffles with bacon and maple syrup, or a lazy Sunday champagne brunch – the choice is yours! It doesn’t matter – it could be bacon rolls and coffee if that’s what you know your friends would like. Don’t do breakfast? Do lunch or afternoon tea. You make the rules.
When does it take place?
Any time in March, our birthday month (Sweet Sixteen this year). You pick a day and time to suit you. The Centre will be holding our own one on Sunday 10th March at the Boathouse restaurant followed by a walk in Caerlaverock woods, but it can be any day of the week you wish.
What if I don’t enjoy catering?
You can still participate! You might have a dog-friendly venue near you that would be prepared to host it (like we are doing) for a percentage of the proceeds, or get together with a friend to do it. (TIP: continental style breakfasts are perfect for non-cooks.)
Will I have loads of dogs in my house?
No, not at all. Because it is to raise funds for a dog charity, you might find it fun to combine your Breakfast with a sociable walk with your pals and their dogs before or afterwards. It being March and cool weather, if you are having a dog walk you might choose to ask your friends to leave their dogs in their cars. Or hold a totally dog-free event with just good chat or some fun quizzes or games.
Where will it happen?
Hopefully everywhere! There are no limits. From Lands’ End to John o’ Groats, this is a fun way of having a get-together with friends, whilst helping the dogs in our care that are waiting for their forever homes.
What do I do next?
1. Register your event. Complete the form (on the back of the Big Dogs Breakfast leaflet or get in touch with the kennels) then we will send you a collecting box for your event. If you prefer, simply email us the details as requested on the form.
2. Send out the Invitations. Decide how big or small you want your gathering to be, then choose whether you need to invite by word of mouth, send out invitations, or create an event on your Facebook page or other social media. (TIP: set up a little Go Fund Me page because you will be sharing with all your Facebook friends who may like to support you from the other side of the world.)
If you would like any more information, support or help before you decide to participate, feel free to give one of the team a ring on 01387 770210
Return your boxes to Glencaple and tell us how it went. Share photos on our Facebook page!
